The steps of this model are:
- Define the situation and the desired outcome
- Research and identify options
- Compare and contrast each alternative and its consequences
- Make a decision / choose an alternative
- Design and implement an Action Plan
- Evaluate results
The above steps are repeatable. At any step in the process, we may decide to go back and repeat an earlier step (for example, diagnosing a problem can often lead back to redefining the problem). Further, the process is continuous. Implementing a solution does not end the problem solving process – evaluation of that solution may identify new aspects of the problem or new problems that need to be addressed, leading us back to step one, where the new problem is identified.
This structured & systematic approach to solving problems and making decisions produces the best results quickly because it:
- Helps provide focus and clarity to ourselves and our clients, and allows us to both work on the issue simultaneously in a way that enhances our decision making (rather than confusing the issue/s).
- Keeps the process more scientific and less susceptible to individual biases and perceptions.

1. Define the situation and the desired outcome: We conduct an initial analysis of your particular property needs, goals, problems, and limitations. We will then reflect on your particular needs and outline what services we will provide to get the outcomes you want, along with a detailed summary of our proposed fees. We can discuss and adjust the arrangement until we’re both happy to move forward.
2. Research and identify options: Once appointed, we combine our knowledge, hands-on experience, and access to our extensive property networks to research and identify potential solutions. This is where we tend to get a bit creative. At this stage we also consider solutions that involve assistance from other property professionals.
3. Compare and contrast each alternative and its consequences: We will research, assess & quantify the alternatives of each potential solution, relating these back to your particular circumstances.
4. Make a decision / choose an alternative: We work with you to ensure your decisions are made according to a clear and sound rationale. We will make a clear recommendation as to what we think the most appropriate solution is (given your particular needs), but this is ultimately your call to make.
5. Design and implement an Action Plan: Once your decided strategy is confirmed, we act on your behalf to execute and manage the Action Plan. Critically, if the Action Plan requires help from other professionals, we can also hand pick and project-manage the team on your behalf. We remain involved until the outcome is secured.
6. Evaluate results: This step involves managing and monitoring the Action Plan to ensure milestones are met, costs are contained, and work is completed. We’ll finish an instruction by evaluating how we’ve performed, and if there are any further issues we need to address.
